In the new Microsoft pre-period of the fiscal year (the current ends when the month), Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sent a large broadcasting company to design the management of the company for the next year and beyond.

The e-mail, reproduced exclusively by GeekWire establishes a new company mission statement: "[T] or empower every person and every organization in the world to more" Nadella give further details, saying Microsoft. has a "unique ability to balance the needs of individuals and organizations" and that its employees "deeply concerned by the overall take things and make a difference in the lives and organizations in every corner of the planet."

The new mission statement does not seem to be a million miles of the mission described by Nadella predecessor, Steve Ballmer. In 2013, Ballmer wrote that Microsoft was "to create a family of devices and services to individuals and companies that allow people worldwide at home, at work and on how the activities they value more. "

The centerpiece empower people and organizations to do things-is a common theme. Ballmer formulation seems a little more specific, however, in terms of the way that Microsoft allows people (with devices and services), and where they may be entitled (work, home, "on the fly").

Both are far from the days of Bill Gates. "A computer on every desk and in every home" was clearer in its intentions and actually measurable It was a mission that has enabled Microsoft statement said about "mission accomplished".

The things reaffirms email Nadella said several times in the last year: Microsoft is still alive in a "mobile first cloud first" world, and understanding of mobility is not only that the devices are mobile, but the experiences are mobile, using the cloud to orchestrate and synchronize.

Nadella provides a few more details on how the company should comply with this new mission later in the mail. The plan consists of three areas: "the processes and business productivity reinvent", "build the platform on an intelligent cloud" and "create the most personal computer"

These are each discussed in more detail, and indeed, all very familiar tune given what we've seen from Microsoft in the past year. Office remains the core of the Microsoft platform for productivity, and in the last 18 months have seen extended desktop to other platforms, Bureau promoted as a platform, new tools like Delve and Sway, hub surface collaboration equipment, and of course, the Office 365, both at home and at work.

Microsoft cloud platform, Azure, is becoming more urgent, more services, more customers and more recently, a new data analysis and machine learning facilities. Microsoft coverage is growing in importance, both in its own right, directly with customers through the implementation of services and cloud computing, as part of the infrastructure background, things Cortana as food, onedrive, and Xbox Live.

The third step is perhaps the most controversial. Nadella says Microsoft "will build the best exemplification of this vision through [its] Windows device platform and our equipment." The email clearly indicates that Windows devices and remain a key component of the plan. This becomes important in the context of the last paragraph, where Nadella said that Microsoft will "make difficult decisions in areas where things are not working."

There is a widespread feeling among industry observers that Nadella want or intend to get rid of Nokia phone division bought last year. Leaving the division could be the kind of "difficult decision" that the e-mail refers to.However, the continued importance placed on devices and the statement to be the best Windows experience suggests that Windows phones will not be thrown yet.

No Windows phones, these mobile experiences no better on the Windows platform devices, and there will be a platform for Windows devices to be the best. Kill Windows on the phone also decrease strongly the message that Microsoft developed shouting over the past two years. The company has been promoting universal applications and the ability to share code between form factors. This message has meaning only if Windows is available in all common formats, and that in turn means that Windows must be on the phones.
